A new year, a new beginning and new possibilities. It’s time to start, and try some new things in your life and your business. A time to look at things differently and move away from the things that were not working last year to change things up a bit.
A time to SOAR.

You may have heard of the word SOAR in business and personal terms a few times? One of the definitions I came across was the acronym SOAR used as a strategic planning technique which helps organisations focus on their Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Results. SOAR. It’s quite an interesting process or tool that focuses on “the organization and enhancing what is currently done well, rather than concentrating on perceived threats and/or weakness.” To read more go to here.

Looking forward at this year ahead, it is the perfect time to change the language you have been using from the negative VERB mentality to one of a SOAR mentality. In her book ‘The Accidental Entrepreneur’, Janine Allis, talks about another definition (SOAR) Solutions, Ownership, Accountability, and Responsibility. vs (VERB) Victim, Entitled, Rescued, Blame. The positive vs negative mindset. For a lovely insight see this article.

So, I explored the term SOAR personally and the words that came to me were:

Solutions:

Looking at this in context of a new year = words like:
• New
• Positive
• Hope
• A fresh start and
• A different way of thinking

Having a solution driven thought process, solution driven thinking, positive and open ideas and forward thinking.
You ARE able to find the solution! Or ask someone who can help you find it. And always look forward.

Ownership:

Own your goals, your business, your journey.

Own the decisions you are making for the future, and what you have already decided upon. Own your mistakes and achievements. Create change in areas to see improvement, or you don’t like and move forward.

Accountability:

Be accountable for everything you do. Look at setting goals and sharing them with a group or a trusted adviser. Be accountable. Track those goals. Step by step. Make decisions with others in mind and own those decisions.

Responsibility

You are responsible for your business and the decisions you make each day. Take that responsibility seriously, if you are responsible for a mistake you can also fix it.

Find a solution, own it, Be accountable and Responsible. Move forward.

Move forward to better beginnings. This is a new year, a new start. A Chance to get it right.

Be confident. Smile and enjoy what you do and the knowledge that you are good at it.
